Less Is More...

...Sometimes less is more.In case of November, that is very true.  After the last rain storm much of the intense leaf color was swept out of the trees.  Half-naked trees have become more prominent.  In areas where the trees are all stripped of their color, often there is at least one vibrant flame of color of a tree not yet denuded. Scarlet and gold carpeting can still give a final thrill of color before the whine of leaf-blowers whisk them away for collection.  The time change is our in vane attempt at trying to hang onto a bit more of sunlight as the days continue to grow shorter.  Grey clouds streak through the skies making us appreciate every ounce of sunlight and blue skies that we can see through them.
Slowly but surely the vibrant colors of October are dulling down to browns, umber, and maroon.  But to make up for the lessening of everything else as autumn winds itself down, we have the Supermoon, also known as the beaver moon, to look forward to. The appearance of this super giant won't be this kind of spectacle again until 2034.  I'm just trying to decide where to be when I attempt to photograph the Supermoon.  Hopefully, Ohio will have clear weather conditions for the event
Since today was sunny and chilly, I managed to finally walk a trail at Silver Creek Park with a friend.  Each spot along the way had special features that made the whole experience a string of wonderful memories of the day.  Watching the shower of falling leaves in the woods was a delightful experience.  It was like walking through golden rain without getting wet. Everywhere there was a golden carpet that made one want to roll on it much like the temptation when confronted by new carpet.  Both my friend and I were ready for a nap, or ice cream, after such a great time on the outdoors.  Tough call there...as usual, I managed both...
As the color display of fall winds down, I am grateful for the mild weather so far.  Less is more.  The upper canopy of brilliantly colored leaves is thinning out, but the colorful carpet at the base of the trees is still exciting to the senses. Since the leaf color is short-lived once it is on the ground, one is urged to take advantage of every moment of sunlight available while the leaves are still vibrant.  The ever present whine of leaf-blowers and city leaf collection trucks can be heard in the background all over town.  Be sure to catch that color quick.  November won't be around for much longer.  It is hard to believe that Thanksgiving will soon be here.  Countdown to Turkey Day and Black Friday.  It boggles the mind.  As for now, I am capturing those last moments to relish like fine wine.  But with sunflower potpourri and lots of leaf-peeper photos, I can make it as close to being able to bottle the essence of autumn as possible.  Those are my personal rituals of the season.  It may not seem like much, but this truly is the prime season for less being more...much, much more...
