AWESOME AUTUMN

Colors of autumn

...Today is wet. It is the kind of soggy wet that tends to stay for days.  On and off it has rained, keeping one from doing much outside work.  This has been a frustrating summer with unbearable heat, little rain, and no real joy of gardening for me.  My faithful lavender plant has managed to give me a wonderful yield of aromatic wands, in spite of the brutal weather conditions.  I'm afraid Le Petit Jardin has suffered from neglect this season.  Finally, there is rain and cooler temperatures, but it is a little late to make much of the garden.  Fall is coming much too soon.  The weeds are almost insurmountable as I contemplate garden clean-up to shape Le Petit Jardin.  Maybe munching a cookie will help the cause...

Recently I was asked if I had created any new art.  Sadly, I had not.  With the miserable heat, accompanied by a temporary foot injury, I was both immobile and discouraged.  But cooler temperatures have made a major reset in my mental attitude.  The creative spark that happens for me in autumn has begun early this season along with the early changing of leaf color.  Rethinking my creative space has stirred several new artsy ideas.  Thoughts of "less is more" is ever in my mind.  Fall is usually the season for purging and packing away things until spring, but for me it has been a season that fosters creativity.  A friend told me that she couldn't wait to decorate for Christmas.  I cringed at the thought of rushing the autumn season.  Missing fall would be heartbreaking for me.  Crisp quality of air and changes in light make for a highly dramatic experience for the senses like no other.  But will life stop being so busy that I can't find time for artsy ideas bouncing around in my brain?  That would be a "no" answer.  Even this late in the season Le Petit Jardin hasn't been touched. The weeds are doing fine, thank you very much.  I did manage to buy a few pots of mums to decorate the front deck as a tribute to the season.  After a few freezes, they are showing their zapped blossoms as casualties of the cold weather creeping in on us.

Pas De Deux

Thanksgiving is almost here.  Though there is still a golden glow of autumn leaves everywhere, many of the trees are rapidly holding onto fewer and fewer of their golden treasures.  Only yesterday morning I watched the neighbor's tree dropping nearly all is leaves in a shower of yellow splendor.  Soon it will be only stark black bark with its empty branches awaiting snow and ice.  But for now it is still autumn in its last glory before winter visits Ohio.  Time for a cup of tea and a cookie as I enjoy the last moments of golden leaves...
