Lemon-Scented Dreams...

SPRINGTIME TULIPS

...April showers brings May flowers"...It must be so, because we in Barberton are noticing all the flowering trees and spring flowers as we float by on our pontoon boats.  That's actually a local joke in reference to how much rain and flooding we have experienced lately.  I would begin the spring clean-up of Le Petit Jardin if it would ever stop raining.  Meanwhile, I drink more tea while nibbling a cookie as I plan how I will set up this year's gardens.  Lots of art projects are bombarding my brain as I stir my gardening mojo during the wet waiting.  Lately I have been on a lemon kick since discovering scrumptious non-gluten lemon shortbread cookies.  Lemon scented candles have perfumed my abode and I have been using lemon essential oils as my springtime personal fragrance.  Watercolor images flood my imagination as I think of herb stores from the past.  Those were my happy places years ago.  Now gone from the scene, those store/nurseries were remembered as I indulged in lemon aromas and tastes.  Lately all the colors of the day are now chartreuse pom poms of leaves sprouting on local trees, bright yellow daffodils popping up everywhere, and of course the ubiquitous dandelions, scrappy but happy yellow.  Now that the dull grey-brown of our disappointing winter seems to be passed us, I rejoice in the explosion of color everywhere.  Is it any wonder that I am bursting with artsy ideas.

The rollercoaster temperatures are still running crazy in Barberton, but it hasn't stopped the lilacs from blooming.  Lilac pale lavender is the next color on my spring palette.  As I walked from my SUV to my apartment stairs I was enveloped in a cloud of lilac perfume.  Moving from lemon-scented goodies to lilac fragrance everywhere is all part of the spring journey I have been enjoying.  It won't be long before my lavender plant will be producing its sweet-smelling purple spears.  In the meantime, I will nibble my lemon shortbread cookies as I sip lemongrass green tea while contemplating the next colors of Le Petite Jardin...
