    ...The air was warm and inviting.  Colors of gold and orange blazoned everywhere.  Loading up all the essential equipment to help me to immerse myself into the hiking experience, I set out for Silver Creek Park.  It was a trail I had not walked in many years.  Too many of my hiking friends now no longer could make the trek, but I was determined to experience that trail  more time.  For the first time in years I dug out my walking staff to help me along the way.  Strapping my fanny pack around my middle I now had some inspirational music to listen to as I walked along taking in all the sensory experiences of the trail.  The sun was bright, the air was clear.  It was peak weekend for the fall foliage and there were many families taking advantage of this season of leaf peeping.      Armed with my trusty camera I walked with a slower pace than others around me as I stopped fr...

Lavender Joy...

       ... Howling winds, torrential rain, rolling thunder and lightning furiously slammed through the Magic City.  But finally it was cooler.  My morning began with inspecting my yard to see if I had "lost" anything to the wild winds of the storm. Fortunately everything was where I had left it the day before. Though it was a bit breezy, the day was deliciously cool and partially sunny.  Perfect gardener's weather... Immediately I wrestled out my packet of mammoth sunflower seeds and poked five seeds into the moist soil.  My next fun task was that of harvesting the new crop of lavender stems I had been carefully watching.  Le Petit Jardin was already yielding its green stems.  The fragrance of freshly cut lavender put me in my happy place once again, reminding me that it isn't about the size of the garden.  It is all about the amount of joy one derives from the sensory experience of nurturing plants, harvesting the bounty, and enjoy...

Grandma's Glass...

     ...As I cleaned up the garden area by my kitchen door, I rediscovered the colorful chunks of glass that were part of the decoration in my garden.  Fist-sized glass pieces had been layed around the base of a larger rock to add both color and texture to the garden design.  My Grandma Jesse had always had bright glass chunks scattered around in her gardens.  When she died I asked for the glass pieces from her gardens.  No one else in my immediate family showed an interest in the colored glass, so it was easy for the glass to come to me.  If only the others had know the story as to how Grandma got the glass, they might not have handed the color chunks over as readily.      Jesse and her siblings were originally from Byesville, Ohio.  In nearby Cambridge, there had been a glass works factory.  At one time or another various people in my family came to work at the glass works.  When I was a little kid G...
