Lavender Joy...

       ... Howling winds, torrential rain, rolling thunder and lightning furiously slammed through the Magic City.  But finally it was cooler.  My morning began with inspecting my yard to see if I had "lost" anything to the wild winds of the storm. Fortunately everything was where I had left it the day before. Though it was a bit breezy, the day was deliciously cool and partially sunny.  Perfect gardener's weather... Immediately I wrestled out my packet of mammoth sunflower seeds and poked five seeds into the moist soil.  My next fun task was that of harvesting the new crop of lavender stems I had been carefully watching.  Le Petit Jardin was already yielding its green stems.  The fragrance of freshly cut lavender put me in my happy place once again, reminding me that it isn't about the size of the garden.  It is all about the amount of joy one derives from the sensory experience of nurturing plants, harvesting the bounty, and enjoy...

Dragons and Roses...

    ...Gung hey fot choy!  As we wrapped up January, Chinese New Year ushered in the year of the dragon.  I am yet to go out for Chinese food in celebration of the new year.  Not too sure what the dragon has in store for this year, but I do know that I am starting to be newly renewed with creativity in my art endeavors.  We haven't had many snow days so far, but I have still had days that permitted uninterrupted time for art.  Attending a recent art reception helped to breathe new into my art mojo.  Exactly what I needed.  My fellow artisans also encouraged me in ways that freed me up unblock to creative flow again.  Thanks, I needed that!       Another area of joy for me was that of herbs.  Delightfully, I found that rose is the Herb of the Year selection by the National Herb Society.  Rose is my favorite scent.  I wear a toilette water that is rose scented, Tea Rose by Perfumer's Workshop....

Grandpa and the Garden Fairies...

     ...The rains have stopped their deluge and the warm, sunshiny days of summer are upon us.  Lots of gardening clean-up going on here at Johnson House.  I'm a month behind on getting the gardens whipped into shape due to the extreme rainy conditions of our wet, wet spring.  I know I've kicked into summer mode when I start thinking about spray painting stuff.  My friends all tease me about my spray painting ventures.  When in doubt, spray it gold!  That's a bit of Grandma Jesse in me.  She was notorious for gold leafing things.  She restored antique furniture.  Jesse was a flower arranger, too.  Her basement shelves were lined with all kinds of containers for that purpose.  And she had no qualms at spraying any of them gold when it served her purpose.  One of my friends once gave me a whole carton of gold spray paint as a joke.  Not funny to me, I was thrilled!  I just hope the authorities don't ...
