Lavender Joy...

... Howling winds, torrential rain, rolling thunder and lightning furiously slammed through the Magic City. But finally it was cooler. My morning began with inspecting my yard to see if I had "lost" anything to the wild winds of the storm. Fortunately everything was where I had left it the day before. Though it was a bit breezy, the day was deliciously cool and partially sunny. Perfect gardener's weather... Immediately I wrestled out my packet of mammoth sunflower seeds and poked five seeds into the moist soil. My next fun task was that of harvesting the new crop of lavender stems I had been carefully watching. Le Petit Jardin was already yielding its green stems. The fragrance of freshly cut lavender put me in my happy place once again, reminding me that it isn't about the size of the garden. It is all about the amount of joy one derives from the sensory experience of nurturing plants, harvesting the bounty, and enjoy...

...As with each new year I sat down and created "the list". Resolutions to change bad habits and to create new good habits dominate my list. I sit and stare at the list, hoping to somehow scrunch up new energy and resolve to make the projects ahead of me become a reality. The curse of flat surfaces is everywhere with strong ju-ju mocking me. "I will not put up with this any longer!" I announced to the four winds. Pitching and sorting, I began a brutal triage of old papers, bits and pieces of buttons, pens, tacks, trinkets, etc. Feeling much like Indiana Jones searching for the Ark of the Covenant, I persevered digging through the piles of accumulated paraphernalia stacked on my kitchen table. "There's a table under here, I know it. After all, something with a flat surface has to be holding up all this stuff!" Indoor Projects...

Okay, we have had such a weird winter here in Ohio. On February first the sun was shining beautifully. After checking up on Punxitawney Phil's prediction on the second, looks as though the weirdness will continue for six more weeks. It was overcast here in Ohio. I'd have thought there wouldn't have been any problems with shadows. Today we are having the craziest snow/slop wetness dropping from our grey skies. Go figure! Can't ski in it, walking is wet and sloppy, and it's just plain dreary. So, that usually makes me turn to indoor activities. I've been strangely energized on my many creative projects. The books I've been working on seem to be talking to me. Probably due to being forced to stay indoors I am thinking strongly about the spring gardens.
